Karin Johnson, MHA

Karin Johnson got her start in healthcare when she was elected as a college sophomore to the County Board of La Crosse, Wisconsin, where she was appointed vice-chair of the county's health and human services board, directing a $40M annual budget during the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

Karin served as communications director for two winning political campaigns and consulted on various others. She carved a niche in public affairs consulting first in Wisconsin, and later in Minnesota, developing a focus in healthcare. She helped clients navigate the intersection of public policy and public opinion. Most recently, she led Tunheim’s work with the Minnesota Hospital Association.

Today, Ms. Johnson is a Director of Strategy & Innovation with United Healthcare Medicare & Retirement.

Ms. Johnson graduated with Highest Honors from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, where she triple-majored in public administration, political science, and English rhetoric. She earned a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health where she was awarded the Kruse Scholarship.

She is a graduate of Emerge Wisconsin, one of the nation’s leading political training programs for women candidates.
