Why did you want to be a Kruse Communities of Excellence Scholar?
As a first-generation immigrant from Chile, I have learned the importance of community from a very early age. Growing up I have seen the power of relationships and how important it is to use our differences to unite us rather than to divide us. From living in two different countries and five different cities, I have always found ways to get involved within my community and work to unite people for greater change. My future career interests are to focus on healthcare delivery at a population level. As a policy maker and administrator, I would like to improve efficiency in healthcare facilities and the quality of the care being provided to patients and their families. I believe that every person is entitled to the highest standard of physical and mental well-being, and I believe being a Kruse Scholar will give me the network and opportunities to help me make a difference in this space. No matter where life takes me, I will continue to find ways to get involved in my community and to create relationships that have the potential to impact the lives of others. I also hope to carry these perspectives with me and teach others to give back to their communities and work together despite differences and recent political and social divides in our country.
